in 1995 by Al Stewart, a former corporate executive with background in the
transportation and communications industries with industry leaders such as
Eastern Airlines, AT&T, GTE and Sprint and educational background in Adult
Education. The initial focus of the business was to address the career
transition needs of the employed who were struggling to find alternatives to
their current situations or those who were seeking a totally new career
direction. The support services took the form of strategies to conduct an
effective, productive career search or executive coaching support to help
individuals to consider and explore alternatives either within their current
organizations or elsewhere.
From these initial focus points, Business Mentors, Inc. grew to include
Entrepreneurial Support Services for those individuals who wanted to start
their own businesses or consulting practices. In some cases, individuals were
seeking assistance in exploring franchise opportunities or home-based
business development opportunities.
With the continued wave of corporate downsizing and realignments brought on
by mergers, acquisitions and the ever-present pressure to perform in a more
profitable manner, Business Mentors, Inc. addressed a marketplace need by
offering career transition assistance to the unemployed (outplacement). The
focus of this practice area is to assist unemployed executives during their
transition process by providing emotional support during this trying time and
helping them maximize their chances with search methodologies as they
explore new challenging positions after their departure from their former
employer.
While Business Mentors, Inc. is physically based in Atlanta, GA, we work with
individuals across the country and overseas. Approximately 40% of Business
Mentor's clients are based elsewhere in the United States or in Europe.
While nothing can replace the effectiveness of face-to-face contact, remote
counseling is a very successful component of the coaching process using
teleconferences, email and fax communications. Most individuals are more
concerned about the quality of the product provided to them rather than the
need to meet personally with the career coach.
